The Hindu : States / Tamil Nadu : History wasn't made by ‘can't doers': Kalam

Reading this only now.

With all due respect to Mr. Kalam, I think there are two things to consider:

1) Is the probability of accident zero?

2) IF there is an accident, what will the Government do?

1) No, it can never be zero, however state of art the security is. Given that the technology is nuclear is the risk not 100x multifold? And news about other nuclear accidents are not helping - they just show why people are justified in their protests.

2) This is the bigger question and I know the answer. They will not move one muscle in their little finger and will leave the impacted ones to fend for themselves. Right now, they are twiddling their thumbs and making statements - how about putting your money where your mouth is - like a billion dollar security deposit? Just saying!

Doing something grand and inspiring is fine. But how to - with people of utter lack of concern and any semblance of trustworthiness?
