I am sorry I endangered you...

Just after I posted about saving Pandas (or letting them die), I ran into the following picture.
Cannot post on the blog since it's copyrighted.

But aww, need one say more, and will those who still think they have to die or leave them to the course of nature change their minds? I first thought it was photoshopped, but it's not. It's the real deal!

Should Pandas be allowed to die out?

I saw this question/observation somewhere on the net during browsing.

The reason was that they were too "high maintenance".

I am thinking "no" for the following reason primarily:
We can take recourse to letting nature run its own course if we lived that way. We are in a large part responsible for the destruction of the Panda habitat, that now it becomes our responsibility to make sure we do our part in sustaining them. They are beautiful awesome cute unique mammals - we will be losing a precious part in our co existence with them. After all as human societies go, our energy, money and effort go to all sort of craptacular things* - why not in saving the Panda? I remember what we did to the dodos, which were indiscriminately hunted for their meat (a meaty bird that cannot fly, hmm, what was nature thinking!). Now all we have are dodo drawings and their memorabilias all over Mauritius.

Breaking the food jinx

I had a feeling I was overeating these days (because I was overeating), so this weekend I tried an experiment.

I lived on three things:

1) Fruit juice (sugarless at night and with sugar in afternoon)
2) Bitter guard chips (pAvakkai) (100 gms of it over the weekend). You get interesting things here!
3) Ground nut smoothie (Sadhguru's recipe)
[Day 1 - ground nuts soaked overnight mashed up with nendram bananas and honey
Day 2 - ground nuts soaked overnight mashed up with nendram bananas, honey, dates syrup and sprouted greens]

Should say it worked very well for the following reasons:

1) No trace of hunger in the intermediate periods
2) Obviously felt light!

Only problem was that it is not setting Shoonya conditions properly :)

I have some nutrition veterans* I should get in touch with to customize this. Obviously this is not going to be a daily affair, but it is awesome for doing a "reset".

I got to know about this organization from a forward. I have read that people who do this kind of work* with steadfast focus go a long way in their inner growth. I am hoping this happens with Krishnan also.

Now that he has established and stabilized this operation in Madurai, I am hoping he will extend this to other places also. Some small things we can do:

1) Donate - probably take up one day's expenses of feeding the 400 or so people (any celebration can be an excuse to do this!)
2) Spread the word

* By "this kind" I am not talking about what falls under the umbrella of "social service". I am talking about activity that comes from inner prompting and satisfies the following criteria:

a) Accomplishing something that does not keep oneself in focus
b) Relentlessly and tirelessly doing this over and over. It cannot be sustained through outer motivation or even financial support. The only way it will work is if it comes from within  (read: He does this 52x7, he will marry only if his would-be will join hands with him in this initiative)

more imint

I thought of responding to Vandana's comment in the previous post, but it's length warranted a separate post.

One point you make is valid. You anyway make these purchases, why not get paid for them right? Another thing is that, many individual brands have their own reward schemes - imint does a good enough job to bring them under one umbrella so you have more traction to redeem.

The holes:

1) imint makes its money (I think) by this business model: Align with specific brands. If it aligned with all, the brands lose their differentiation. For example, if imint was accepted at all petrol bunks, the petrol bunks earn no benefit from imint. But since only HP accepts them, a customer with an imint card goes to a HP bunk avoiding BP and Indianoil. As a return, HP possibly gives a cut to imint which in turn passes on some to the customer. For this kind of a service, I think the customer deserves more than 0.5%.

2) When I have to shell out 4 points to redeem 1 rupee, the point loses its value. Why should I spend 50 Rs to get one point which is worth 25 paise? (0.5% again). I think the reword should be more like 4-5%. The business model is a little unfair!

3) I also think that points should directly translate to rupees - i.e, if I have 5 points, it must be worth five rupees of redemption. Then the customer will realize very clearly that 200 points equates to 1 rupee. This veiling is what keeps the model going isn't it?

Having said all this - I guess there's no harm swiping your mint if you were going to make the purchase anyway. What I would not advise doing is to change your preferred brand purchase for the sake of imint. The kind of benefit it provides is not worth the favor you're doing to the company!

If only your home loan (the home must be a penthouse!) could take in an imint card number, that 82k watch would be yours with the home - LOL!

At a fuel station today, some one came over and handed out an imint card. I am guessing you would have heard about this already?

Was doing some research about their rewards. See an approximate table matrix below. May slightly vary by product and location etc.

 So, in average, the reward is 0.5%. So, when they priced an Omega watch as 267700 points (which costs approx 82000 Rs), I should have spent ~1.4 Crore rupees to claim that. Seriously! Is it worth tracking the points for something as ridiculous as this?
