Project Green Hands - 5th Jan 2008

This episode of PGH was very enjoyable. After all the ground work (!), this involved the implementation aspect. Other was that there was less physical work ( ;) ). The task was to distribute saplings to school children of Ebenezer HSS, Perungalathur (near Tambaram). The volunteers had already done the ground work of collecting names of children who were interested in growing the saplings in or near their homes by visiting them at a prior date. The name lists had been collected by class. The principal of the school and rest of the staff treated all PGH volunteers with respect and courtesy. Probably, being part of the school syllabus, they appreciated the intent behind the initiative. Overall, about 300 saplings were distributed to children of this school. The next task will be to make periodic checks to monitor how the saplings are faring after plantation.

The PGH volunteer explaining to the school children, the process of planting the saplings and caring for them.

Unloading from the truck and carrying them to the classrooms for distributing to the children.

Devi (PGH volunteer) with saplings.

'Heritage-Jayendra Nagar' residents living in the lap of nature, amidst lush green forestland, beautiful hills and a lake.
This township is spread over 20 acres with 373+ independent houses built in accordance with Vastu Shilpa Shastra.
It is located at Sembakkam on the Tambaram-Velachery Road and has unique features and facilities that no other township
can boast of but unfotunately it does not have proper road to connect from Velecherry Main road, currently it's laid with
mud road. Whenever there is an election all councillors are promised that it will be recified with proper road or atleast
cement road but nothing had happened so far. Recently it has been left battered and bruised at many places after the recent
rain. We would be happy if some Officials / Reporters come forward to help us.
